What age groups does Planet Learning Centre cater to?
Planet Learning Centre provides services to a variety of age groups ranging from infants to adults.
What is the difference between an IQ test and a Psychological Assessment?
A Psychological Assessment encompasses an IQ test, as well as other psychological tests to determine specific learning difficulties or disorders.
How long is a Psychological Assessment?
A Psychological Assessment will take a minimum of 2 hours, up to 4 hours, depending on the number of tests conducted. As part of the assessment, parents or main caregivers are required to be interviewed.
At what age can a Psychological Assessment be conducted?
The cognitive ability of a child is usually not stable before the age of six years old. Unless necessary, the psychologists at Planet Learning Centre will not recommend Psychological Assessments to be conducted before the age of two and a half.
What are Social Skills training?
Social Skills training focuses on communication and interaction skills that are age appropriate for the individual. It usually includes role-playing, social judgement, social comprehension, and higher-level thinking & inferring skills. These skills are important for individuals to integrate and adapt in their social environment.
Can disorders be cured? Will my child be able to live a normal life?
Disorders cannot be cured, but they can be managed and improved with early intervention and continuing support from both family and school. Most individuals will grow up to lead normal lives and be gainfully employed.
What is Autism?
Autism is a condition whereby individuals exhibit a pattern of behaviour with impairments in social communication, social interaction, and imagination. The onset of these impairments must be observed before the age of 3 years old and when other congenital conditions are ruled out.
Are learning difficulties hereditary?
There are no scientific conclusions to whether learning difficulties are inherited. However, it is not uncommon for some of our clients to have similar learning difficulties as their siblings or parents.
How large are your class sizes?
We have individual one-to-one classes and group classes. For the group classes, they are conducted in small-group settings, with a ratio of 1 therapist to 3 individuals with special needs. Group classes are never larger than 7.
How often are the sessions conducted?
Most sessions are conducted weekly, unless the individual requires intensive intervention. For counselling and behavioural intervention, sessions are usually conducted fortnightly, or monthly.
